Lady Captain 2021 - Karen Woolven
Originally from the North East, a Mackem rather than a Geordie, I came to glorious Yorkshire to study Chemistry at Leeds University in 1976. Following this I was blessed to teach chemistry for over 33 years and for the last eight years I have been an educational consultant for a private company and am now close to fully retiring!
I joined Waterton Golf Club as a beginner in 2005, but did not play regularly until my husband Nick, also a beginner and a chemist joined in 2013. We have both enjoyed the golf facilities at Waterton along with the social functions and company of its members, something we wish to continue over the coming years.
Not quite the start we envisaged for 2021, but nevertheless I am really looking forward to this captaincy year alongside Bernard and really hope he and I, are given the opportunity to arrange golf events for everyone to enjoy and raise money for Wakefield Hospice and NSPCC, our chosen charities.

This event over 18 holes, is organised by WEG Trust and costs £1 a player. It is played in two handicap divisions, below 20 and 21 – 36. The winners from each division are paired together and the top 30 pairs will head to the final at Kings Norton Golf Club, Tuesday 17th August.

Mark Davies will reintroduce these weekly sessions on Friday 21st May from 10-11am at a cost of £12. There is a maximum of six in a group in line with Covid Government Restrictions. Contact Mark on 07843061811 or email@example.com
First Ladies Supper and AGM 2nd June, contact me or sign up on notice board.
A very warm welcome to our new and returning members for this year, Kathryn Bower, Linda Hand, Vivienne White, Cheryl Taylor and Elizabeth Wakefield, we hope to meet you in person soon!
Dates of events are in the Ladies Section diary sent out at the beginning of the year and there is a tab on this site for your perusal. Hard copies will be available in our locker room. New dates for the AGM and ‘Drive In’ will be pencilled in as soon as there is more certainty about how things are progressing.
The golf format is restricted initially, but the ladies roll up will be possible on Tuesdays and Thursdays around the 10am slots. If you wish to join the Roll Up What’s App group please email the handicap secretary, Karen Andrews firstname.lastname@example.org. The winter fun competition never really left the starting blocks and has therefore been cancelled. If everyone is agreeable the £5.00 entry fee will be put towards the Wakefield Hospice fund. If you prefer to be re-imbursed just let me know.
The 2021 season for the eclectic, par/birdie competitions start on the 1st of April with a voluntary subscription fee of £10.00. This can be paid directly into the ladies’ section account referenced with Subs followed by your name.
Sort Code 05-09-64 Account No. 12281720
Alternatively, money can be put in an envelope and posted in the money locker FAO Diane Westmoreland.
The results for the 2020 competitions will be announced at the AGM.
Unfortunately, due to the club restriction on visitors, the 3 team matches organised for April are cancelled.
Our team captains and vice captains will keep us updated about arrangements going forward once we have information from the YLCGA.
A future occasion to be considering is the Ladies Weekend Away on 8/9th August.
I have provisionally booked places at Breadsall Priory, Derby to comprise of DBB, two rounds of golf, with arrival and departure food for a minimum of 24 ladies, currently at a price of £130.00pp (TBC) in a twin room (if allowed). If you would like to attend this weekend, could let me know by email email@example.com. It would help me secure an appropriate number of places and price, once the centre is open. I really hope this venture comes off and we can have a fun golfing weekend away together!
Anyway, more of us collectively are being vaccinated every day, so on this positive note let us hope now for good weather!
